Llizarov is a method of limb lengthening where the doctor cuts your lower leg bones called tibia just right below your knees. The doctor, then, install llizarov braces around your lower legs to support you. So when you stand up, you are actually standing on the llizarov brace instead of your lower leg bones.
The frames are applied around your legs by nails and wires. This might seem scary or painful but actually it's not. There's a little pain initially, but pain medications usually minimize pain.
The nails and wires are screwed into your bones to hold the llizarov frames around your lower legs. At the same time, you use these braces to lengthen your legs by turning screws 4 times a day, which is equivalent to 1mm.
The pain also depends on the person's pain tolerance. Some people are more tolerant to pain and some are not. It also depends on the llizarov brace material. If you have a stainless steel brace, it's heavier so it's more painful. However, it is the safest. There are other materials that are lighter.
But overall, drugs can minimize the pain.
