I guy emailed me and asked if it's worth it to grow only 3.5 inches. I think this is a great achievement. But I would like to put this in perspective. I think it's all about relativism and also about your own expectations. If you're 5'7" to start with then you become 5'10 1/2", this is like you were short then you became taller than average. But if you are 5'1" to start with and you become 5' 4 1/2" then you started from being short and you still are short after the surgery.
So both guys gained same height but two totally different results relative to social perception. I am not putting anyone down. If you gained 3.5 inches, consider yourself lucky because I had met someone who could only gain 1.5 inches because his bones wouldn't regenerate. I can still remember his anger and frustration. It is a very disappointing thing.
So please if you undergo this procedure, make sure that you do not only have physical strength but you should have emotional and psychological strength. Disappointments can be very bad.
On the other hand, I had met a patient and I believe he was only 19 or 21 and he was I think 5'6". He gained 2 inches and he said that's it and was already happy with it. He was young and his bones were very healthy. For sure he could have opt for 2 more inches and he would have made it but he was happy with 2 inches and at 5'8". So this is a different story.
So make sure to know yourself before going through his procedure. Good luck.

Are you a good candidate for limb lengthening?
Are you emotional? You don't have money? You can't take a long vacation from work? If you answer yes to one of these question, most probably you are not a candidate.
1. Going through limb lengthening takes a lot of your time. You will be confined in your home, hospital, or in any place your are hiding from 6 or more months. You you better be prepared. You can solve this problem by being prepared. You can bring your laptop computer with internet connection with you to your place of surgery. The computer will be your best friend because it will help you escape to the rest of the world.
2. If you don't have money, you can't do it. It's that simple.
3. If you are running a business or if you have a job that requires you to be onsite, most probably you cannot have this surgery unless you quit the job and you have enough savings. As I said, the recovery period is long.
There are other factors that may affect your decision. If you are older, your bone regeneration may not be as fast as an 18 year old boy. Thus you will only small additional height which might not be worth doing the sacrifice. You can check with your doctor first if you are a good candidate.

Is it worth it to have limb lengthening?
Is it worth is to have limb lengthening? The answer is it all depends to how bad you want it. Some get crazy for being short. They do all things possible and availabe to be taller or to at least look taller. However, some are comfortable to be shorter. They may entertain limb lengthening but they don't think about it as much.
Let's talk about the desperate ones, at the edge of getting crazy. There is nothing wrong with this because I was like this before I had my surgery. I felt inferior. I felt not as important. I felt I didn't belong to my body. I've always thought that I'd be a better person being taller. I knew I had the determination to do the surgery no matter what so I did it. If this is what you feel, you may consider it. What do you have to lose??? This is a big question. A surgery mishap maybe? However, you can counter this by doing a good research and good preparation.
From my experience, it was a balance of budget and the doctor. Some doctors are very experienced so they charge more. This is not the only factor however. Some countries just charge a lot more than those from developing countries.
I suggest that you contact each of the available doctors that you can find. Ask their fees, living cost for staying in their location, their experience, how many surgeries have they had and the likes......For each of these criteria, mark 1 for bad up to 10 for the best. For example, if you think the doctor does not have the experience, mark this criteria 5 as oppose to 10. Do this with the rest of the criteria. Add all of them up to get a total. Compare this total to other doctors' totals. This will be very helpful in your decision making.
Good luck!
